Novella: Kissing Santa by Kylie Gilmore

Are you familiar with a novella? A novella is a story that is shorter than a book, usually 40,000 words or less.  I love them, especially when I'm in the mood for something light to read but don't have a lot of time.  I recently read Kissing Santa by Kylie Gilmore. Check out the blurb:

Samantha Dixon is about to confess her most secret, romantic Christmas wish to Santa. Heck, what’s she got to lose with her disastrous romantic history? Like that player from her horrible blind date last week arranged by her mother. Only guess who’s Santa?

Rico del Toro loves women. So one bad date with the beautiful Samantha in a string of many, ahem, successful evenings is no big deal. But when a friendly favor playing Santa unexpectedly lands Samantha on his lap for a romantic confessional, he’s intrigued. He’s never heard a woman open her heart like that before.

But if this Santa wants a second chance, he’ll have to rethink his womanizing ways and convince her that he is the perfect package.

The concept of the story is cute and add in the Christmas theme and I was anxious to read it.  The story started off promising, but it fell a little flat for me.    Knowing this is a short story I didn't expect a lot of character development but I did want to like the characters and feel a connection.  The hero is a major playboy and his intentions were mostly motivated by sex.  The heroine was likable, but seemed really naive when it came to love.  The story did have funny moments, a couple of scheming moms and a little romance.
Was the story terrible? No!  Even though it wasn't a favorite of mine, doesn't mean it won't be a favorite of yours.  It is a short story that has been written as a light, fun read.  If you interested in a steam filled short story to rev your motor and get you into the holiday spirit, check out Kissing Santa.
