Cover reveal: Cinder & Ella by Kelly Oram

Kelly Oram is on my list of favorite authors that write great clean romance.  Her upcoming release, Cinder & Ella looks fantastic and I can't wait to get my hands on it.  Check out the beautiful cover and be sure to enter the giveaway at the bottom of the page!

Here's the blurb:
It’s been almost a year since eighteen-year-old Ella Rodriguez was in a car accident that left her crippled, scarred, and without a mother. After a very difficult recovery, she’s been uprooted across the country and forced into the custody of a father that abandoned her when she was a young child. If Ella wants to escape her father’s home and her awful new stepfamily, she must convince her doctors that she’s capable, both physically and emotionally, of living on her own. The problem is, she’s not ready yet. The only way she can think of to start healing is by reconnecting with the one person left in the world who’s ever meant anything to her—her anonymous Internet best friend, Cinder.

Hollywood sensation Brian Oliver has a reputation for being trouble. There’s major buzz around his performance in his upcoming film The Druid Prince, but his management team says he won’t make the transition from teen heartthrob to serious A-list actor unless he can prove he’s left his wild days behind and become a mature adult. In order to douse the flames on Brian’s bad-boy reputation, his management stages a fake engagement for him to his co-star Kaylee. Brian isn’t thrilled with the arrangement—or his fake fiancĂ©e—but decides he’ll suffer through it if it means he’ll get an Oscar nomination. Then a surprise email from an old Internet friend changes everything.

Teaser excerpt:
“You do have someone who cares,” he said softly. “No matter how bad things are at home or at school or whatever, you have me. You’re my best friend, too. You have my number now. Save it in your phone and call it anytime—day, night, the witching hour—it doesn’t matter. Okay?”
It took me a moment—and a series of deep breaths—before I could respond. “Okay.”
“I promise. As long as I always have you, I’ll be fine.” I kicked myself internally and laughed. “Wow, that sounded really cheesy. You see? That’s why I didn’t want to call you. I can filter my stupid mouth so much better when I have to type out my thoughts.”
Cinder laughed again. “Ah, but then you would miss out on all the sweet nothings I plan to whisper in your ear now that I know how much you like my ultra-sexy voice.”
I blushed but refused to let him know that his flirting rattled me. “I never said ultra, you egomaniac. But you should definitely consider recording audiobooks for a living.”
“Hmm. That’s not a bad idea.” Cinder’s voice dropped to that slow, seductive purr again as he asked, “Would you like me to read to you, Ellamara?”
I thrilled at the thought and couldn’t quite mask my excitement. “Seriously?”
“Why not? Before you called, I was getting ready to have a Top Gear marathon all by my lonesome.”
“You are such a liar. Tonight is Friday night, and it’s Halloween. There is no way you don’t have plans.”
“I don’t have important ones. It’s just a stupid party that my sort-of girlfriend wants me to go to.”
“Your ‘sort-of’ girlfriend?”
“Yeah.” Cinder stretched the word out in a long breath. “It’s a long story, but I’m not that into her. I’d much rather stay home and read with you. Besides, I can’t hang up on you when you’ve had the worst day ever. What kind of best friend would that make me?”
I almost cried again. The offer was so sweet. And thoughtful. Reading was a passion Cinder and I shared. We read and discussed books all the time. We’d even decided to read the same book at the same time before, but we’d never read one together. Cinder had to know how much that would mean to me.
“It has to be The Druid Prince,” I said.
Cinder laughed. “It’s already in my hands.”

Author Spotlight: Anne Eliot

I want to spotlight a favorite YA author of mine, Anne Eliot.  Anne has written these amazing YA books that deal with tough issues that many teens experience, but she does it in a sensitive, thought provoking way that makes you feel as though you are in the mind of her characters.  You experience their highs and lows and everything in between.  Here are my reviews of Anne's books and I hope that you find one that you might wish to read!

It's no secret here on the blog that I'm a boy band/rock star fan.  One of my favorite YA rock star romances is Unmaking Hunter Kennedy by Anne Eliot.  I absolutely love this one.  The story is fun, YA appropriate, and every girl's dream.  Cute angst filled rock star? Check.  Uninterested, but becomes interested young girl? Check. Protective but clueless older brother? Double check.  Seriously, this is a favorite of mine and I have read it many times.  The angst is light, the characters are believable, and the story line, while at times sad, is fun.  Plus, I really like the cover.  Isn't it great?!

To Purchase Unmaking Hunter Kennedy at Amazon:

After reading Unmaking of Hunter Kennedy I knew that I had to read more from author Anne Eliot. When I discovered her other book, Almost, I have to admit I hesitated reading it.  The story deals with the aftermath of a teenage girl, Jess, that was almost raped.  Since the subject matter was a little deeper, I wasn't sure I was up to the emotional roller coaster it was offering.   Almost stayed in my TBR pile for quite awhile. When I finally decided to read Almost, I devoured it.  Anne handled the sensitive subject matter in such a beautiful and sensitive way.  Jess' journey of finding herself and putting the past behind her is emotional, but you will find yourself cheering her on and celebrating with her in the end.  As with Anne's other book, this is very YA appropriate.

To purchase Almost at Amazon:

Anne recently released How I Fall.  She's on my auto buy list, so I quickly added it to my large TBR pile, where it safely landed on top.  I started How I Fall thinking I would read a little here and there throughout the day as I was productively getting things accomplished around the house.  I found that I couldn't put it down and therefore blame Anne for my untouched to-do list.  This story, like Anne's previous books, is a YA.  Ellen is 16 and has battled Cerebral Palsy her whole life.  She is strong, driven and desperately wants to be seen as something other than the disabled girl.  Cam is a star football player that feels boxed in by all the demands that are placed on him by his family.  Cam just wants to be able to live his life, and that life doesn't include football.   Cam and Ellen are brought together by a chain of events and longtime crushes are revealed.  In How I Fall I loved the descriptions of the day by day, or more appropriately, hour by hour struggles that Ellen and Cam experience individually, as well as when they are together. The reader gets this amazing love story, but also this internal struggle of realty vs. how you want to be perceived.  While this story does describe and discuss Ellen's CP and her limitations, that is only a small part of the overall story. I think the main theme is about how we all struggle with something, but we can't let that something define or limit us.  I do feel the lengths the adults went to in this story to prevent Cam and Ellen from dating was a little exaggerated, but it did add that extra heart pounding element to the story that kept me reading.  Warning! This book does have a cliffhanger! My understanding is that this is a 2 book series.  Anne if you're reading this, I need book two ASAP!!  Overall great story with a very Romeo/Juliet like love story.

To purchase How I Fall at Amazon:

I recently met Anne at the RWA Literacy Signing in San Antonio.  She was so nice, easy to talk to and very gracious.  If you ever have the chance to attend a signing for Anne I encourage you to attend!

When a health scare forces his best friend, Kyle Roberts, off the team, no one can stomach the thought of replacing him, especially so close to the playoffs.

Until Kyle's sister, Sasha, steps in, convincing management to let her take his place. The idea of signing the first female player in Major League history proves too tempting for the Kings to resist.

Yet when Kyle takes a turn for the worse, Brooks promises to do everything in his power to help Sasha win a championship for him. Because there's no way he's letting either of them down. Not now, not ever.

About Collette West

Collette West grew up as somewhat of a jock-nerd hybrid. Entering the world three weeks premature, her dad nearly missed her birth because he had seats behind the dugout for a sold-out, highly-anticipated match-up between two of baseball's biggest rivals. Not to be outdone, her book-loving mom taught her how to read by the time she was three. A love of the game coupled with an appreciation for the written word were instilled in Collette's impressionable brain from a young age. No wonder her characters believe in the philosophy: sports + romance = a little slice of heaven.
Splitting her time between the Pocono Mountains and Manhattan, Collette indulges her inner fangirl by going to as many games as she can from hockey to baseball and downloading every sports romance novel in existence onto her iPad. When she's not clicking away on her laptop, she enjoys walking her dog in Central Park, satisfying her caffeine craving at the Starbucks on Broadway and keeping an eye out for Mr. Right. But above all, she loves dishing with her readers. Email her at

Will he give her the perfect life she so desperately craves in the most unexpected way?

My body isn’t used to this much alcohol. The few glasses of wine I normally drink don’t have me in the middle of a dance “orgy” without remembering how I got there. Sweat is dripping down my neck and tickling the space between my breasts. After the third round of drinks, bought by three different men just wanting to get in my pants, I feel relaxed yet out of control. Noelle is nowhere to be found and in my drunken state I’m not even the least bit concerned about it. The music has taken over my body and I can feel myself letting go of all the stress and anxiety that Robert has caused me. I don’t care who is watching because at this moment I feel like the sexiest person in here.

With my eyes closed I rub my hands along my hips all the way to my hair, pulling it off my neck into a makeshift ponytail. The beat of the music moves through me like an electric wave. When a cool puff of air passes over the back of my neck it feels like water in the Sahara. Larger hands than I’ve ever felt before unexpectedly come around my waist and pull me back into a rock hard chest. My breathing becomes more ragged as the mystery man whispers in my ear.

“Are you hot, baby?” He asks, his hot breath sending shivers down my spine.

My senses are on high alert and despite the fact that I haven’t a clue what he looks like, those four words turn me on instantly. If his voice can do that to me I’d love to see what his enormous hands are capable of. Our bodies connect and sway to the music as his mouth continues to hover just above my shoulder causing tingles to radiate through my body. I can feel his lips grazing the crease of my neck and when he nips my skin my knees go weak. My head falls back involuntarily giving him more access to continue his sensual assault. He smells delicious, and the soft suctioning kisses he places up my neck cause me to moan in anticipation. I have to see the man who is releasing all my inhibitions.

Reluctantly I turn my heated body around feeling the loss of his soft lips, but what I’m rewarded with is a vision of godliness. Standing at what appears to be well over six feet tall is the most panty-dropping specimen that I have ever laid my eyes upon. I should have turned around sooner! His plain black t-shirt hugs every single slender muscle in his sexy ass arms. The faded blue jeans he wears are snug, even more so where his zipper lies, showing me how much he is turned on. His dark brown hair is a styled mess; short on the sides but longer up top. I can’t help but wonder what it would feel like to grab hold of it and tug. Hard. A grin flashes across his face, as if he’s read my mind, and I see a hint of just one dimple on the right side of his mouth. His green eyes appear hungry as they shamelessly take me in from my toes to my own starving eyes. I swallow hard and try to catch my breath.

“I thought you looked good from behind but damn if you don’t look heavenly from this angle,” he says loudly, over the music.

He grabs both of my hands, circling them around his neck. With our height difference my forehead falls into his chest perfectly, as if we are two pieces of a puzzle. I try to control my breathing; the alcohol is coursing through my veins now. Freeing my hands from their hold, they find their way down and softly graze over his pecs and then the ripple of his abs. They falter as they come in contact with not a six pack but, a …1,2,3,… eight pack! I see his chest rising and falling rapidly. I think he must be as turned on by me as I am by him. Impossible.

Unexpected is a very steamy story of two people brought together after a one night stand that had lasting consequences.  Walker is a fresh out of college alpha male that knows what he wants, and that's Erin.  Erin is an established teacher who has had her heart broken and just wants to get over her heartbreak and enjoy life.  Together, they find they are exactly what each other needs.  The story is a little predictable, and some of the situations seem a little far fetched, but it is an overall good read.  Perfect book to cuddle up with on a rainy day.  Steamy-ness is high.

A Safe Space by E.M Tippetts

Title: A Safe Space
Author: E.M. Tippetts
Age Group: NA
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Cover Designer: Okay Creations, Sarah Hansen

Everyone needs a safe space.

For Lizzie Warner, that space has always been in front of the camera on her hit show, or on stage to a sold out concert arena. Since before she can remember, she’s been a star, but that may be about to change.

She’s nineteen. Her show has been cancelled and now she’s going to play the lead in a new prime time drama series, but is the world ready to take her seriously, or will she be typecast as the cute tween queen forever?
Her network has decided to be aggressive and has invested millions of dollars in an ad campaign for her show, money she’s not sure she can earn back. Her co-star can’t stand her, and the writing for the show turns out to be poor at best. The only reason Lizzie didn’t walk away from the job offer to begin with is because she’s broke, the victim of a decade of bad money management.

Then there’s Devon, the personal trainer at her gym. Arrogant and abrasive, he’s the last guy she should ever find attractive, but she has a hopeless crush on him anyway, and he doesn’t seem entirely disinterested either. In fact, sometimes he’s downright sweet to her. If only he weren’t an untamable bad boy who uses and dumps women like they’re nothing. Though Lizzie’s friends warn her to stay away, he’s the only person who can create what she needs: a safe space. But is there any way she can break him of his years' long habit of being a user?

I love E.M Tippetts writing.  I have been a long time fan and was excited to read her newest release.  I was not disappointed.  A Safe Space is more than a romance between two people.  It is a progression of two people discovering themselves and falling for each other in the process.  Lizzie was a child actor who is trying to find her place in the world after growing out of that role and becoming an adult.  It was very refreshing to read about someone making this transition and not carrying a lot of baggage.  I feel as though Lizzie, while young, was so much more mature than her nineteen years.  Denton is this older guy who saw Lizzie as this untouchable, this person who was unattainable for someone like himself.  Together they had to decide if giving someone all of yourself is worth the risk of losing yourself if it ends.  My only complaint is that I felt the last chapter was a little rushed.  I'm glad Lizzie came to her senses, but I felt the situation at that point was taken lightly and then everything was forgiven and all was right with the world.  Steam level is light.

Making Faces by Amy Harmon

Have you ever read something and as you read it you just wanted to take a highlighter and start highlighting words, phrases, paragraphs?  Just me?  If I had highlighted words/phrases that I loved in Making Faces I think I would have used a whole box of highlighters Amy Harmon's Making Faces is one of the most beautiful, well written books I have ever read.  I had heard great things about this book, but honestly kept putting it off because I knew it wasn't a "fluff" book.  I knew it would be emotional and I would probably shed a few tears.  I ordered the book and when it came in the mail, I thought I'd just read a few pages and see what it's about.  At 1:30 in the morning when I had finished, I just sat in awe.  Amy Harmon has a gift.  This book is so carefully and masterfully written.  By page 17 I was already shedding tears....a few more pages, and I found myself rereading some sentences several times so that I could absorb the meanings.  A few more chapters and I found myself smiling and thinking back to when I was young and the world was exciting, but a little scary.  A few more chapters and I was crying again and wanting to scream at the injustice of it all.  When I finished, I immediately wanted to find someone that had read it and discuss it.  It's that good. I will definitely be purchasing her other books to inhale the first chance I get.

I want to share with you the first phrase that I came to that I wanted to immediately highlight.  I think it is my favorite phrase ever. EVER!
Everybody is a main character to someone....  There are no minor characters.
There is more to this scene, but I don't want to spoil any part of this story for anyone.  When I read these few sentences I just stopped.  I reread that sentence again and again.  I loved it.  It is something I want to frame, and I will.  I want to remind myself and those around me that everyone is important to someone.

I'm not going to summarize any of the book.  I want you to experience this book with totally fresh eyes. The characters in Making Faces are believable.  They are smart, funny, and face adversity.  Just like the characters in the story that are trying to make sense of this thing called life, Amy's writing requires you to really think, ponder, reflect, etc.  Did I cry? Yes. Did I fall in love with the characters? Yes.  Did my heart break? Yes.  Would I read this all over again? Definitely.

If you take my advice and read Making Faces, come back and let me know what you thought!
To purchase on Amazon: Making Faces

I wanted to include a conversation I had with my 6yr.old as I was reading Making Faces.

Review: Neanderthal Marries Human by Penny Reid

This book is not a standalone. It is the sequel to ‘Neanderthal Seeks Human,’ it is book #1.5 in the ‘Knitting in the City’ series, and it is a full length, 105k word novel.

There are three things you should know about Quinn Sullivan: 1) He is madly in love with Janie Morris, 2) He’s not above playing dirty to get what (or who) he wants, and 3) He doesn’t know how to knit.

After just five months of dating Janie, Quinn—former Wendell and unapologetic autocrat—is ready to propose marriage. In fact, he’s more than ready. If it were up to Quinn, he would efficiently propose, marry, and beget Janie with child all in the same day—thereby avoiding the drama and angst that accompanies the four stages of pre-matrimony: engagement, meeting the parents, bachelor/bachelorette party, and overblown, superfluous wedding day traditions. But Janie, much to Quinn’s dismay, tosses a wrench in his efficacious endeavors and challenges him to prove his devotion by going through the matrimonial motions, no matter how minute and mundane.

Will Quinn last until the wedding day? Or will he yield to his tyrant impulses?

Regardless, one thing is for certain, Quinn Sullivan will have to learn to expect the Spanish Inquisition (i.e. the unexpected) if he plans to have and keep Janie Morris as his wife.

Again, you must read ‘Neanderthal Seeks Human’ first before reading this book.

This book is written in first person, alternating POV (Janie Morris AND Quinn Sullivan; but more Janie than Quinn)

When I read, (and when I say read, I really mean the first 20 times I read), Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid, I fell in love with Quinn and Janie.  Quinn quickly became my favorite book boyfriend of all time.  My numero uno.  The CFO of Book Boyfriends Inc.  The Chieftain.  The...well you get the picture.  I love that he's a man of few words, an alpha male, and that he loves a slightly awkward gorgeous nerd named Janie.  Then I read Neanderthal Marries Human and I now think I love Quinn 10 times more than before.  Or maybe 11 times, but who's counting.  In NMH, Penny lets us into the mind of not only Janie, but Quinn.  Quinn's mind is a little dirty, a little obsessed with a certain nerd, and a lot romantic.  For someone who didn't want to fall in love, Quinn sure knows what love is and how to keep it.  In NMH, Janie is still Janie, but we get to see more of what is really going on in that brain of hers.  We still get the plethora of trivia, but we are also given a front row seat to her emotions.  I loved seeing how vulnerable she was to Quinn and how badly she wanted to be with him forever, while anticipating and preparing for when he would inevitably move on to someone else.  In Janie's mind, statistically, things end, but what she didn't realize, is that statistics don't apply to Quinn Sullivan.  When Quinn loves, it's forever. What makes NMH great is that it provides us with a window into the every day lives of Janie and Quinn while giving us an intimate look at the people in their inner circle.  Quinn and Janie's love isn't perfect, but it's perfect for them.
I love the way that Penny flawlessly weaved in NMH and gives us small glimpses of scenes from Friends Without Benefits and Love Hacked, but from a different perspective. These glimpses are like the missing puzzle pieces from the other stories.  Neanderthal Marries Human was written after these books had already been written and released and shows just how talented Penny is at knowing her characters and telling their stories. While I believe the first 3 books of the Knitting in the City series are great, I think you will see that Neanderthal Marries Human is the missing link that you didn't even realize was missing.

A few things I observed while reading Neanderthal Seeks Human:

-Don't accept drinks from anyone, especially friends.  What ever happened to Friends Don't Let Friends Do Drugs?!?  My new phrase: Don't Let Friends Drink and Have Unsupervised Panty Dance Parties.

-What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas, especially when the details are hazy and no one actually knows what happened.

-Nico's charisma affects everyone, man or woman.  It is extremely effective when it comes to Elizabeth and getting what he wants.  I might even go as far as to call him a genius decide.

-Quinn only gets better with age, each book, when he breathes....

-Dan is the MAN!

-Guys shooting guns is hot.  Guys shooting guns in the desert is hotter.

-Discussing the Titanic is always a great way to divert the sexy ship and send it sinking into cold, cold water.

-Quinn drinks Texas whiskey and therefor a very smart man...

-Sometimes parents shouldn't be parents, and sometimes, parents screw up and just want a do-over.

-Family isn't always someone you're related to by blood, but someone who accepts you for the way you are and loves you more because of it.  No matter who you're with, be yourself.

-Beware of moose sausage.

-Quinn has great taste in slamps....did we ever doubt this?!?

-You can read a whole book in one sitting.  Kids can feed themselves.  Husbands CAN do things without your help.

Penny, if you're out there, I'm not content with your writing ;) I'm happy with it and hope you continue to share your true gift of storytelling with your readers.  I love how your mind works and that you create characters that we fall in love with, flaws and all.  Thank you for letting us live in your mind, if only for such short periods of time.

P.S Penny, I'm 97% sure I love ya...;)

P.P.S. I need more Dan.  I know that his book is last, but I wouldn't mind if you moved it up. Will you accept bribes???

About Penny Reid

SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing).
By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter. By the wee hours of the morning or when I’m intoxicated I love to listen to the voices in my head and let them tell me stories. I hope you enjoy their stories.

The Husband Games Cover Reveal!!

I am a huge Jamie Farrell fan and so excited to reveal the cover of her upcoming release!!

After Natalie Castellano’s marriage imploded on the field of the Husband Games in Bliss, Illinois, the most married-est town on earth, the last job she expected to inherit was planning the fiftieth anniversary of her hometown’s unique Games. But with her mother’s unexpected passing, that’s exactly what Natalie’s doing. And the position demands that she play nice with CJ Blue, the man who ultimately caused Natalie’s marital demise.

Winning Bliss’s Husband Games and being crowned Husband of the Year was the brightest spot in CJ’s short marriage. Since his wife’s untimely death, he’s taken himself around the world, hiding from his grief. But now, family obligations have him trapped in Bliss, where he’s been invited to participate in the Games and humiliate himself in the name of closure. The whole town wants him to play. The whole town, except one. And he can’t decide what bothers him more—that Natalie doesn’t think he belongs in the Games, or that she’s right.

These two would make great enemies. But all games aside, the more they find themselves in close quarters, the harder it is to deny their mutual attraction. She’s battled Bliss’s bridal brigade, and he’s jumped out of airplanes and soared over waterfalls, but now they’re both facing the biggest risk of all: taking another chance on love.

Out of Line Box Set Cover Reveal

All three OUT OF LINE books in one volume.

PLUS two bonus scenes AND the original ending to OUT OF TIME!

I always follow orders. My job, my life, depends on it. I thought this job would be easy, all the rules were made crystal clear, but when I met Carrie Wallington, everything got muddy. She's a rule I know I shouldn't break, but damn if I don't inch closer to the breaking point each time I see her. I'm ready to step out of line. And even worse? I'm living a lie. They say the truth will set you free, but in my case...

The truth will cost me everything.

Being Carrie's bodyguard was one thing. Being her boyfriend is another. Every day she's mine is a day the sun shines in my life. Yet our time together is running out. Her father will never think a tattooed Marine will be good enough, so I'll do whatever it takes to be worthy of her love. But the road will take me away from the girl who makes me feel alive--the girl I can't live without.

Time only gets us so far...

All I wanted was to be worthy of Carrie. One mission, just one, and I’d be able to give her the future she deserved. Then everything went wrong, leaving me tainted and broken. Carrie wants me to be who I was, but all that’s left is what they made of me. I’m no good for her. No good for anyone like this. I have to figure out how to move forward. Alone.

Sometimes love isn’t enough…

Author Spotlight: Lacey Weatherford

I have read several of Lacey's books and I really enjoyed them.  My favorite has been the Crush Series. A great clean romance series that also includes a little mystery and police action.  Check her out!!

Lacey Weatherford was born in Ft. Meade Maryland while her father was serving in the military. She has been a life long resident of Arizona, spending most of her time growing up in the small rural town of Clay Springs.

It was while she was attending the small country school in Clay Springs, that she read her first "big" book at the age of eight. It was a Nancy Drew novel and Lacey was instantly hooked. She read every book that she could find in the series and decided that she wanted to write stories too.

Lacey spent a lot of time at the library from that time forward, even volunteering in her later teen years and early twenties. She would don a crazy clown outfit for the Friends of the Library fundraisers in an effort to help get the new town library built.

When she and her husband moved away from the area, Lacey took the opportunity to take some creative writing classes at the local college to help further along her interests. Several years later, they were blessed with the opportunity to move back to Clay Springs with their family. The town had finally succeeded in building their library and Lacey had the opportunity to be President of the Friends of the Library for a very short time, before relocating.

Lacey and her family still live in the White Mountains of Arizona, where she continues to write young adult novels that have a fantasy/fairytale or paranormal bent to them, as well as being sure to include a great romantic storyline!
